Providing project oversight and functional expertise for a global PeopleSoft implementation

Identifying the challenge

Impart Solutions was engaged by a large, multi-national financial institution to provide program management, project management, and technology expertise to assist with a multi-year, global deployment of PeopleSoft Financials and Management Reporting applications. This client required a highly-customized solution, integrating numerous legacy applications with PeopleSoft's General Ledger to support regulatory and financial reporting. In conjunction with the Financials implementation, a large multi-dimensional data warehouse was developed to store detailed transactional data and data generated by PeopleSoft's Enterprise Performance management applications to support Management Reporting and analysis. With the complex nature and multiple components of this initiative, it was critical that our client have solid project management procedures and professionals in place to ensure clear, ongoing communication across all stakeholders, in addition to proactive monitoring and management of project dependencies, risks and issues.

Implementing the solution

Impart Solutions provided highly experienced Project and Program Managers supporting Program Office activities, application experts providing configuration and implementation services for the PeopleSoft General Ledger Modules, and technical experts supporting the PeopleSoft Portal efforts. Our consultants assisted with execution of PMO initiatives and oversight, providing the structure for and facilitating PMO reporting and issue resolution. At the project management level, we were tasked with daily project management responsibility and delivery of individual project streams, as well as the development of a customized application to provide users visibility into end-to-end daily processing. These projects required our consultants to oversee the activities of more than a dozen client employees and contractors throughout the entire system development lifecycle.

Our individual consultants were also responsible for analysis and development of requirements related to the PeopleSoft Portal, manual journal entry, and end-to end configuration of General Ledger. In addition, members of our team assisted with definition and development of requirements related to financial and management reporting. Our consultants were selected not just for their technical skills and expertise, but also their understanding of the financial services industry and how to best utilize PeopleSoft's functionality in this environment.

Delivering value

While implementation of the initial deployment is forthcoming, our team has provided significant assistance in reducing development time-frames by creating "templates" of the application modules that can be implemented quickly at other sites around the world. We have also played a significant role in the development and application of the tools and processes in the Program Office to oversee the implementation of Management Reporting, which will have a great impact on measuring the operational performance of this institution upon completion.
